National Basketball Associationโ€™s star and Brooklyn Netsโ€™ starting point guard Kyrie Irving stated that he chose not to get vaccinated against COVID-19 after the Brooklyn Nets organization decided to prohibit him to practice or play with the team until he complies with the New York Cityโ€™s coronavirus vaccine mandate.

The New York Cityโ€™s coronavirus vaccine mandate requires every player a proof of at least one shot of the vaccine to enter courts, gyms, or large indoor spaces. NBA also stated that players will miss out games on pay if they are incapable to compete due to local mandates not complied.

Brooklyn Netsโ€™ general manager Sean Marks said that Kyrie Irvingโ€™s decision not to be vaccinated and not complying with New York Cityโ€™s coronavirus vaccine mandate left the team and organization โ€œno choiceโ€ but to not let him play or even practice with the team until heโ€™s able to comply.

โ€œIt is not about being anti-vax or about being on one side or the other. It is just really about being true to what feels good for me,โ€ quoted by ESPN as he stated it on Instagram Live on Wednesday, October 13. โ€œIf I am going to be demonized for having more questions and taking my time to make a decision with my life, that is just what it is. I know the consequences of the decisions that I make with my life. I am not here to sugarcoat any of that.โ€

Because of that and as a result, Sean Marks confirmed that the Nets point guard would only lose roughly 380,000 for those missed games. Irvingโ€™s also unable to play 2 pre-season games in Brooklyn, 43 regular season games, 41 at Barclays Center, and two games in MSG.

NBA told that players who has not been vaccinated will have to comply with a long list of restrictions in order to participate in the upcoming 2021-2022 season that is scheduled to begin in October 19.
