The Department of Transportation (DOTr) suggests Google include bike lanes here in the country at the Google Map application on its real-time navigation.
Secretary Arthur Tugade believed that it would be a great help for bike users to their commute every day given that the number of Filipino cyclists is increasing.
โThis will be a very good innovation for Google Maps, considering that many Filipinos now are riding bikes as their main mode of transportation which brings significant health and environmental benefits, especially amid the pandemic,โ
"We are confident that we can win their support on this," Tugade added.
The DOTr already accomplished its 500km bicycle lane network in urban across the country. Including 313.12 km in Metro Manila, 129.47 km in Metro Cebu, and 54.74 km in Metro Davao.
The bicycle alleys have pavement markings, physical dividers, solar-powered path bars, thermoplastic pigments, signages, and bike stands.
The operation was subsidized through the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act.
