The resupply mission to Filipino troops stationed in Ayungin Shoal was completed on Tuesday, but not without "a form of intimidation and harassment" by the Chinese coast guard, according to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.
According to Lorenzana, as the supplies were being unloaded at BRP Sierra Madre, the old Navy ship that acts as the Philippine outpost in the area, a Chinese coast guard ship in the vicinity of Ayungin Shoal sent a rubber boat manned by three individuals to take photos and films.
Lorenzana said he has expressed his worry to Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian regarding the event.
Lorenzana also stated that he does not believe the Philippine government should issue a diplomatic complaint over the new incident.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. has already been informed of the situation, according to Lorenzana.
The resupply effort featured two military-chartered civilian boats that arrived shortly before noon on Tuesday near Ayungin Shoal, or Second Thomas Shoal, days after a similar mission was canceled because Chinese coast guard forces halted the boats and shot water cannons at them.
The Philippines expressed their displeasure with the situation. A group of progressive House of Representatives members has filed a resolution calling for an investigation.
